Revision3:
OPS0016 Aerobatics Training Manual has been completed. The conditions of this OD still apply. This OD will be reviewed when OPS001 Manual of Standard Procedures 2 (MOSP2) is updated.
Situation:
Gliding Australia (GAus) Manual of Standard Procedures Part 2 Operations (MOSP 2) specifies the training of both basic and advanced aerobatics must be performed by an instructor with an Advanced Aerobatic rating.
Basic and Advanced aerobatics are defined in OPS0016 Aerobatics Manual.
Gliding Australia has completed the GAus Aerobatics Training Manual OPS0016. The syllabus for training is available in the GAus Training Manual OPS002. The GAus membership system has been updated for new credentials associated with Basic and Advanced aerobatics.
In the meantime, GAus instructors have been teaching subsets of the basic aerobatic manoeuvres for many years. Some pilots and instructors have Part 61 advanced aerobatic ratings or ratings issued by overseas aviation authorities. This cohort has been part of the development of the Aerobatics Training Manual. The history of how GAus instructors gained their experience in aerobatics and their ability in training aerobatics has been “organic”. Whilst pragmatic, this can lead to inconsistency between instructors. Knowledge gaps can occur.
The aim of MOSP 2, Aerobatic Training manual and syllabus and subsequent accreditation aims to address the gaps and inconsistencies.
